Does this scheme provide a way for a site to track *local* modifications
to INN?

Also, suppose the only part of INN I want to modify is nnrpd
I proceed by building a standard release of INN
Then I apply local mods to nnrpd.c
Then I incrementally build what I now have.

If the version string is compiled in, will there be a way that
I can have the version string for nnrpd.c (only) be local modified
to track what I do???
