configuring localhost as a dns server w/ linux

Does your machine have the domain name defined? (and not with the domain
name command, that is for NIS). If you type hostname, what does it say?
You can use set this with the domain option in resolv.conf. HAve you
configured the 0.0.127.in-addr.arpa and localhost zones?
