Updgrading to 8.2.1 from 4.9.6

I just downloaded the binaries for BIND 8.2.1 to run on a FreeBSD box.
I'm a little hessitant to just install the binaries, and yet can't seem
to find any references to installation. I have downloaded the docs as
well, but nothing in there specifies anything of use to me.

Do I have to kill named, first?
Then just copy the binaries over and run the perl script that came with
8.2.1?

Just stay with 4.9.6 :)?

Any help would be appreciated. I've read through all the messages in the
group, to no avail...
