Question about dynamic updates...

Hello all,
I'm in the midst of setting up a new dns server, using named 8.2.2-p5.
My old server was 4.9.3, so I'm a little new to the syntax and
functionality,
but its no so bad.
The feature that I am most interested in is dynamic updates, but there
seems to only
be a little info in the dns&bind 3rd ed, and even less discussion here.
I understand (?) that this was originally designed to allow dhcp clients
to register
themselves, but I'm thinkin that a mininal amount of perl-cgi and dash
of html, and
I won't have to do all the dns entries for the junior admins.
Previously, there was only two of us allowed to make changes because of
type-o problems, etc
but it looks like this may be an option.

Am I up in the night?

If this is possible,
1) do I need to reconcile the .ixfr files or are these just transaction
logs?
2) how is RCS handled?
3) can I switch-off between manual and dyn updates?
4) anyone know where I can learn more?
5) any words-to-the-wise/fair warnings?
6) if this is all possible, who do i have to thank for making my life
this easy?

Thanks in advance,

Demian Hanks
