primary dns on a dedicated machine

Hi,

I lease a dedicated machine through an isp. Can I register domains with
internic (or whoever) and "point to" my hosts nameserver as primary.
For instance, myhost.isp.com.

It seems that I need to register my machine as a "host" with Internic?
Is this true? Currently I'm using GraniteCanyon, and directing them to
my name servers, this is a roundabout way though.

Any suggestions are appreciated!
