MR record question?

Has anyone used an MR record to forward a users mail to an outside
(unrelated) domain?

The scenario I am dealing with involves about 20,000 email addresses in a
single sub-domain that need to be forwarded to many different addresses on
external networks.  I know that I could do this with sendmail or using a
channel alias with post.office on an NT box, but I would like to avoid ever
actually handling the email.  I would like to do the forwarding during the
name resolution.
