DNS stops working on Win95/98

I got a Linux box with DNS installed without problems following the HOWTO.
Then I setup all those Win95/98 on the network and ping works fine for both
IP and FQDN.  Then the next day ping does not work for the FQDN but works ok
with IP number.  What is the problem?

Note: On the DNS tab (TCPIP properties) of the "Networking" item under
"Control Panel", there is a field for hostname... I put in the hostname of
the machine and not of the DNS server.  Why isn't it with the machine's IP
tab?
