The slave does not connect to that (random an unknown) port number. It
sends its queries to port 53 on the other server. That is the port
number for DNS service after all. However the *source* port a name
server uses when it sends those queries is a random, unprivileged
one. Well in BIND[89] by default at least.... BIND4 servers always
used a source port number of 53 when they sent queries to other name
servers.
