CNAME question

I have this peculiar question/(lack of understanding)


mycompany.com has various  IN A, MX & CNAME records.
mycompany is also known as myothercompany.com.

if i put this:
myothercompany.com. IN CNAME mycompany.com.
it then zonefile for myothercompany.com then it will resolv ok,
but it is not possible to do a named-xfer on a secondary
nameserver. 
this is the response:
-------------
named-xfer[26824]: wrong answer in resp from
[5.6.7.8], zone myothercompany.com: [mycompany.com IN SOA]
-------------
if I try
www IN CNAME mycompany.com. 
then  it works ok.

I am tearing my hair out over this!!
anyone have clues ?

ps. what i really want is that all querys to xxx.mycompany.com 
or xxx.myothercompany.com should be the same.
