When you ask 'squid' for information from your zone, does it say
"Non-authoritative answer:"? If so, there is an error in the zone file
[although I can't see one]. You can find a pointer to it in your
'syslog' output.

You shouldn't need to prime your slave name server with FTP'ed copies
of your zone files. Try re-starting 'named' without those files.

Can the user running 'named' write in that directory and those files?
Are you running 'named' as root, or as some other user? Are you
running it chroot or top-level?
