I think that it is a REQUIREMENT for W2k that the IP domain name matches
the Windows domain name. In our testbed setup, both are

     anl.gov

The problems we have are the sub-domains. In the division in which I
work, ECT, we have multiple NT domains

     ECT-222
     ECT-221
     ECT-CENTER
     (and a few more)

When we convert these machines from NT to W2k, we will have to change
their Windows domain name to ect.anl.gov . But the machines themselves
are in the IP domain

     ctd.anl.gov

because we were known as CTD before the name was changed to ECT. We
have many servers (Unix) that are known at ANL as ctd.anl.gov, so we
cannot change them. What we will have to do is move all of the ctd
Windows boxes to the ect IP domain as we convert them to W2k.

Note that our testbed is just that - a test facility. We will make no
firm plans as to what we will do with W2k in our production environment
until we study the options in our testbed and see what works and what
fails (and what MS recommends).
