config: error: couldn't create pid file

I am getting this in my logfile - "config: error: couldn't create pid file
/chroot/named/var/run/named.pid". I am running named chroot'ed but this message
is prior to the daemon chroot'ing itself. I have set the permissions on the
parent directory (....var/run) to 777 and it still gives the message. Any help
would be much appreciated :-)
