Hi,
i could be way off here as it has been a long time since i have done novell..

we are all there in some varying degree as everything changes always.. yet
remains the same;-))

DDNS is part of the latest Bind but i have not implemented so can't comment
accurately. Save on the licences and a dos based system ;-)) either use
some flavour of Linux or BSD. DNS = "DNS"
Your into unix so use BSD as well for a DNS server and/or a DHCPD server it
really is not that hardware demanding and get more bang for your buck.

DHCP is a standard last time i checked and updates are merely strings passing
across the wire so as long as Novell follows standards i really can't see the
problem. How would i handle this? Hmmm.. you know you need to get out more when
your answering your own questions;-)) Anyways i would for redundancy get two
boxes in your co lab and well setup DNS whatever OS on them and DHCP and
then prove them wrong:-)) Then once i knew how to do dynamic DNS i which
naturally uses DHCP i would well put a sniffer on the wire to confirm that the
Novell "did" operate the same way standards wise so that i did not say
something that i could not substantiate. Then i would have them show how it
works on Novell just so i could get the signals. Then once i had confirmed that
there was no benefit "Really" besides keeping the peace between NIX and Novell
i would call them on it with a proof of concept that worked in NIXland. The
key is proof of concept. I seldom have found that bean counter driven corp do
not understand the word TCO or mean time to failure..

Secondaries is what provides redundanct as that is basically why you are
told to have 2 DNS servers @ least:-)) If you speaking of NDIS or whatever they
call it well hmm.. just use rsync combined with ssh and you have them beat
anyhow . Plus well Open Source IMHO is more secure than Novell as
well as more extendable. Suppose i hae made lots of Novell "Supervisors" pissed
but oh well. Like i said it has been a long time;-D

Good question well just use masters that are each delegated to a specific sub
zone then at worse one workgroup per se goes out. Hey if your master is down
then you need to use the secondaries or whatever. Again since i have not config
such a arrangement i could be wrong on some accounts as i do not claim to be
perfect:-)) Secondly if the MAster is required for DHCP update which i doubt
since that is why you have redundancy builtin to DNS.. Novell will not be any
better thats for sure
