"reset" a serial number

Is it possible to reset a serial number? I always use CCYYMMDD## for a
serial number but some dumbass went and used a "CCYY" well into the
future. I want to be able to "reset" this back to a sane date.

	current serial # 2999041401
	preferred serial # 2000052400
