That's more-or-less what happens when x.y.z is aliased to x.z using a
CNAME record and the y.z server receives and honors a recursive query for
that name. The only difference is that the response clearly indicates the
CNAME. If you want this transformation to be *hidden* from the client, then
no, I don't know of any way to do this in BIND, unless *all* non-existing
entries in y.z should resolve identically, in which case you could use a
wildcard entry which was constantly synchronized with the x.z zone contents.
