Logging named messages to syslog?

Read the manual entries for syslogd and [if separate] syslog.conf.  The
"syslog" messages do NOT have to go to /var/log/messages.  That's just
what is in the /etc/syslog.conf file.  You can change it.

You can fine-tune it, too, with the logging{}; statement in your
/etc/named.conf file, as everyone else has already pointed out.
