BIND with DNAME

I thought the whole point was that they synthesize CNAME's for those
that can't cope, so that shouldn't happen, or did I miss something?

The RFC suggests it is also useful for renaming organisational units. 

I'm planning to use it for a particularly large renaming/renumbering,
just in case people type the old name by mistake, the "machines"
shouldn't be relying on it, but it is a damn sight simpler to understand
and maintain than doing your own individual CNAMEs or maintaining the
old zones, especially where it is just to catch human typo's or stray
laptops and thus you probably wouldn't bother doing it otherwise.
Besides I hate CNAMEs even more than I hate DNAMEs...

I'm intrigued how it will be used for load balancing, and missed the
original post, quite why you'd want to port it back to version 8
befuddles me as well, there has to be some reason to upgrade *8)
