bad referral and server crashes

Improper delegations are commonplace and yes, they do cause your nameserver to
waste resources. But unless you're right at the edge of your capacity anyway,
I don't think bad delegations would cause the server to crash. What kind of box
is this, and what kind of query volume does it get?
