My daily update...

It seems I've almost been sp at mming this list with my updates; but I think a
communication between actual users of Bind 9.1.x is essential for those who
are going through the process of upgrading, and experiencing their own
problems.

I'm now running Bind 9.1.1rc1 on a Sun E250, Solaris 2.7, and 512mb RAM.

After 16-odd hours running, it *appears* stable. I *did* have to write a
Perl script to go through each db file and add a $TTL directive before a lot
of the zones would work, which seems odd.

I tried running Bind 9.1.0; it crashed within 90 minutes or so.

I tried running the Bind 9.2.0 "snapshot" available on the ISC.ORG server.
When 9.1.1rc1 came out, it had a later date than the "snapshot," with a lot
of bugfixes listed, so I went for that instead. 9.2.0 never crashed, but it
exhibited the behavior of not loading zones that lacked a $TTL directive. I
"upgraded" to the 9.1.1rc1 because I believe it to really be a later
version, with more bugfixes. I really don't know the lineage of the 9.2.0
version, and no announcement has been made about it, unlike 9.1.1rc1. So,
for all of those reasons, I'll stick with 9.1.1rc1 for now.

That's my update. I would be very interested to know about other successes
or failures using 9.1.1rc1.

Regards,
Jim
