Can't Start named

[ME]

I am sorry if this has already been posted,
but I am having trouble starting named.
I am running redhat 7.0 , just compiled and
installed bind 9.1.0 and it put 
named in 
/usr/local/sbin/named

I tried executing it and it does NOTHING. It 
does not load. I can't even tell where it's logging
to. I suspect I can set that in the named.conf,
but it isn't clear.

named-checkconf was run and there were no problems.

can you please help me?
