How can I tell which version of BIND I have?

Either you have a very *old* version of BIND (so old that it should be
replaced *immediately* because it has a root exploit!), or your Unix guy
doesn't know about using the "strings" command to identify binary
versions.

Later versions of BIND 4 (I think) and BIND 8 and BIND 9, will return
their version in response to a
QNAME=VERSION.BIND/QTYPE=TXT/CLASS=CHAOS query, unless configured not
to.
