add a zone with nsupdate ?

To immediately follow up on my own reply, are you sure that you need to create
a new zone dynamically?  Kevin Darcy pointed out that creating a subdomain is
possible, but creating a zone is not.

If what you want to do is create a "a.foo.bar" domain that contains
"x1.a.foo.bar", "x2..a.foo.bar", so on, there is no need to create an actual
"a.foo.bar" zone under the "foo.bar" domain.  By using dynamic DNS directly,
you can create these "x1.a.foo.bar", "x2.a.foo.bar" records in the "foo.bar"
zone without having a "a.foo.bar" zone.
