I dimly recall that the Win2K DNS/DHCP subsystem has a feature called
"scavenging" that removes old records when they haven't been used for a
while. This scavenging feature is probably cleaning up after the Microsoft
DHCP server's laziness/sloppiness.

Does it surprise you in the least that a Microsoft product would generate
lower-quality results when used in a heterogenous environment than when
used in a homogenous one? Scavenging is an interesting feature, but in no
way should it function as a *substitute* for proper DHCP server
behavior.
