	Because, for the moment, BIND 9 is not yet well enough proven to 
take over as a root nameserver.  I expect this situation to change 
soon, perhaps sooner than any of us expect.

	However, for everything short of a root nameserver (where you 
have guys like Paul Vixie who can help you maintain it), I believe 
that BIND 9 is a better choice than BIND 9.


	I can tell you, for a fact, that BIND 8 is basically at the end 
of its life.  All new work is being done with BIND 9, and only bug 
fixes, etc... are being worked on for BIND 8.  So, you would be well 
advised to make the upgrade to BIND 9 as soon as you can feasibly do 
so, in order to ensure that you are not left behind.
