Why I Don't Trust the MS Win2k Code

This is an example (from among a number I have) why I do not trust the
MS Win2k DNS code.

We have 11 zones on our production Win2k DNS box; eight are the
MS "_" zones. The other two are one forward zone and two reverse
zones. We had the first case yesterday afternoon where my two BIND
slaves reported a serial number problem when trying to transfer
seven of the zones. (Four had no problems.) The serial numbers were

     Zone MS W2k DNS BIND
     ----- --------- -----------
     1 2001030605 2001030606
     _2 23 24
     _3 671 683
     _4 43 44
     _5 84 497
     _6 89 505
     _7 23 24

The first zone is a zone that I moved yesterday from a BIND master to
the MS Win2k DNS master because that zone will need to have DDNS from
Win2k boxes and DHCP servers. That is why it has a "traditional"
serial number. The other zones are all "_" zones, and I defined them
initially on the MS Win2k DNS, so they have serials that started at 1.

I know that this phenomenon has been reported before on this discussion
group. I will open a trouble ticket with MS today.
