Bizzarre name resolution?

Perhaps someone has put them in the domain "com.au" or added
it to the "search".

If using DHCP it was probably set there, and would explain
why they are all the same.

Well sbs.com.au is in the external DNS with that address.

Presumably your Unix box doesn't have a similar search or
domain statement in /etc/resolv.conf.
