resolving ipaddress without zone

But this will not solve the problem globally. It means I must go to each
machine to configure this. How can I configure it so that the dns does all
this work for me?

I've setup the resolv.conf file as follows:
search delfour.com
nameserver 127.0.0.1

which works on the server itself, but doesn't work for each individual
windows workstation.. how can I acheive this?

you have to tell windows to look for the suffix delfour.com in case
servername does not resolve....

you can do this in the Control Panel under Network...
