"authoritative" for the root zone, the root-servers for the root zone, that 
delegate to the xTLD NS´s.  They receive their administrative delegation 
from ICANN.

"generic" TLD´s, com, net, org, mil, edu, etc, that delegate to the 2nd 
Level NS´s (eg, ISP´s).

gTLD NS´s are same level as the ccTLD, the "country code" TLD NS´s
