Why is BIND running multiple copies in RH 7.1?

I've got too many copies of named running at once.

Having gotten my shiny-new copy of RedHat v7.1 installed, I opted to
run BIND as I had with my previous RH 6.2 installation. I found that
I have 6 copies of named running.

Of course, it is not just the RH version that is different but BIND
itself. Having read the BIND v9.0.x doc (gasp!) I knew that one
could specify the number of copies to run with the "-n" switch. I was
suprised to see that RedHat's start-up script didn't specify a "-n 6".

Despite the BIND doc saying that named could figure this out for
itself, I decided to force the issue by appending "-n 2" to the
program's command line. (This is on a SMP machine.)

So now when I run ps I see that I still have 6 copies of named
running, but now each copy is shown as having "-n 2" on it's command
line. Sigh. This isn't exactly what I was after.

So... what is causing 6 copies of named to run and what can I do to
get the *^%$#&#! thing to respect the "-n" switch?

Thank you.
