There's actually a good section in the new O'Reilly DNS/BIND book which
covers nslookup and dig.

If you're on a unix machine, type 'man dig'  I'm not sure where the
equivalent documentation is on a Win32 build, but you may try dig -help,
which is a little less verbose than the man page, or look for a text file
included with the distribution.
