TTL on LAN?

Hi,

Do the TTL settings of our internal zone files affect 
the clients lease time, too?
If I set the TTL of our internal zone files to 
a small time (2 hours), then the internal 
W2K clients drop their DNS settings and
can't communicate with the servers.
I'm not sure this happens because of the
small lease time, so I'd like to ask you to
explain this mystery.
I have to use the "ipconfig /registerdns" command
on the clients, and then everything works fine again.

I thought that just the primary, and secondary
DNS servers use the zone files, not the clients.
