To .local or .com ?

There are currently 4 listed: .test, .example, .invalid, and .localhost. See
RFC 2606 for reference.

I had thought that .lan was also reserved somewhere, but can't seem to find
where that may have been.

I have a discussion going with another on this issue and thought I might run
this passed you:
Say you have a local (i.e. not public) domain name that you use strictly for
private LAN.  Does anyone (would anyone) here use a private tld such as
.local, .pri, .loc, etc?  Or do you just use a .com, .net, etc?  Just
"dig"ging for some other thoughts...
