"domain names" are just another "owner" record in the DNS, the
only special thing is they have SOA records and NS records.

Change the desert.turbowarp.net CNAME into an A record.

Currently desert.turbowarp.net is given as an A record by the
gtld-servers, so redefining it as a CNAME in your own zone is
asking for trouble I suspect.

MX's aren't allowed to point to CNAME records so changing desert
to an A record will sort that out as well.
