Problem Starting Bind

I just compiled Bind 9.2.0 under a Redhat 7.1 system.  I was running the rpm
version from Redhat with no problems, but decided to uninstall that version
and get the latest.

When I start bind with 'named -u named', I get the following error:

couldn't open pid file '/var/run/named.pid': Permission denied

Does anybody have any ideas?
