BIND 8.2.3 + Solaris 2.6 + recursion issues

I have a public DNS server that occasionally forgets how to send queries
to outside nameservers. After staying up for many hours and answering
many queries, I'll end up with a couple errors like this in the log:
Mar 26 17:11:55 ns1.mrhz.org named[9727]: db_load could not
open: qa/forward/named.goofy.qa: No such file or directory
Mar 26 17:11:55 ns1.mrhz.org named[9727]: db_load could not
open: named.hosts: No such file or directory
Mar 26 17:11:55 ns1.mrhz.org named[9727]: db_load could not
open: named.root: No such file or directory
No idea why - because those files are most definitly _STILL THERE_.
Now here is the problem - named.root is my root server hints file. Once I
get these errors, my name server no longer recurses to the root server to
look up answers to things that I am not authoritative. Big problem, since
a fair number of servers point to/forward to this server.
Any help is much appreciated. I plan to upgrade to 8.3.1 in the near
future, but I want to find out if this is actually a known problem that I
will be fixing, or if I need to keep looking.
Thanks
Erik
