If this freaky setup you have will allow it to write to disk, turn
debugging way up, and watch it. If you have even a rough idea of how to
intpret a system call tracer (strace, truss, etc) I'd use that with
debugging off (not so many writes to disk to wade through).

Get back to us after you get some ouput from those. If you don't know
how to interpret them, post the URL to somewhere we can view them.
