It is still in 9.2.0 - okay I'm lagging a release or so. It now
disappears if you set the "version" string in options. I think I
may have inspired this change, either that or a case of "fools
seldom differ". I was having an "anti leaking" information
campaign at the time, but of course if the server offers
recursion it is fairly easy to fingerprint BIND 9, and early
versions of 9 can also be fingerprinted as they usually answer
the authors.bind query.
