slave serial number keeps increasing

Interesting that you say "... higher than the masters". Masters, plural. Are
you sure that the serial number is higher than *all* of the masters? I
suspect these "masters" are being updated independently of each other, and
your slave is choosing to replicate from whichever one has the highest serial
number at any particular time. This is bad design. All of the
"masters" should either be *the* (primary) master, or slave of that
(primary) master. The classic replication model of DNS is a single hub and
multiple spokes, not any "multi-master" crud that you may have heard from
your Microsoft rep...
