logging to a pipe?

I noticed last night when I was looking for something else, that 
Syslog on Linux has an option to log to a pipe. So (if using Linux, I 
can't remember what platform was involved now) you could simply log 
to on of the local streams in syslog and have it send the logging to 
a pipe - logging to pipe without hacking Bind.
