The first difference between 4.x and ( 8.x or 9.x ) is 4.x uses
/etc/named.boot and 8.x and 9.x uses /etc/named.conf

Now if your are using /etc/named.conf then do

>dig  www.yahoo.com

The first line shows your current version.
