Isn't it all well described in the "Arm-book" ?

If you did not grabbed the sources yourself(and your vendor has
left-out the documentation) it's avalable on a number of places
"http://www.ipsec.nu/dns/bind9/Bv9ARM.html" is on of them ...

The book "Managing DNS and BIND" (o'reilly) 4.th ed has chapters on
this too.
