DNS only knows about hostnames and is not able
to return URLs ( well there are TXT records but
lets not delve.)

Subject: Question regarding CNAME or aliases with bind 9.2.3

I would like to setup an entry in a zone file ( I am running bind on
solaris ) so when someone types :

http://host1.mydomain.com they will get redirected to a different page
with the address :

http://www.remotedomain.com/abc/def/ghi$.startup

Is this possible using bind? I did setup a cname in the zone file as
follow:

$ORIGIN mydomain.com.
host1 IN CNAME www.remotedomain.com/abc/def/ghi$.startup

but it does not seem to work. Any help is very much appreciated. I
manage mydomain.com but the remote domain belongs to a different
company.
