Like for every performance problem, it is faster and safer to test
before asking. Set up a lab, create dummy zone files, test them with
queryperf (in BIND's contrib) or with echoping or with dig and
increase their sizes.
In my tests, with BIND 9, yes: the maximum query rate diminishes when
the zone file grows.
