rndc does not work (9.1.1 <--> 9.2.3)

Hello everyone,

Currently I am trying to set up BIND 9.1.1 on z/OS (9.1.1 seems to be the most recent version available for this platform). For greater ease of use I wanted to set up rndc.
I've already created the corresponding entries in named.conf:

 key "rndc_key" {
     algorithm "hmac-md5";
     secret "<mySecret>";
 };
 controls {
     inet * allow { any; } keys { rndc_key; };
 };

However, when I try t run rndc on my NT-4.0-box, I get the following error message:
rndc: connection to remote host closed
This may indicate that the remote server is using an older version of
the command protocol, this host is not authorized to connect,
or the key is invalid.

I've set up the key manually on both machines, so that should not be the problem. Also, as you can see above, my machine - just like anybody else's - is allow to connect. Changing any to my NT-box's IP-adress does not help, either.
I also looked through the logfiles and did not encounter any entries like "connection refused" or something. =(
On z/OS, OTOH, rndc works perfectly...

So I am afraid I just can't connect to the BIND-9.1.1-rndc with my local 9.2.3-rndc. Even worse, the least recent BIND9 available for NT seems to be 9.2.0.
The man-pages and the Bv9ARM do not contain anything on this, or I wasn't looking hard enough...
Is there any chance at all to make this work?

Thanks in advance,
Benjamin Walkenhorst
