Weird DNS resolving issue

I have an identical pair of Sun Netra T1-105 servers running Sun
Solaris 8.

They both were built and configured on the same day, with an identical
build (OS, Patches, Applications, etc.)

Here is my problem.

The secondary DNS server has no problem resolving external domains
(ibm.com, intel.com, microsoft.com, apple.com, etc.) However, the
primary DNS server times out:

dns1:root:54:etc:# nslookup www.apple.com
Server: dns1.statesman.com
Address: xxx.xxx.122.62

*** dns1.statesman.com can't find www.apple.com: Non-existent
host/domain
dns1:root:55:etc:# nslookup www.intel.com
Server: dns1.statesman.com
Address: xxx.xxx.122.62

*** dns1.statesman.com can't find www.intel.com: Non-existent
host/domain

Same example from DNS2:

dns2:root:2:/:# nslookup www.apple.com
Server: dns2.statesman.com
Address: xxx.xxx.124.62

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.apple.com.akadns.net
Address: 17.112.152.32
Aliases: www.apple.com

dns2:root:3:/:# nslookup www.intel.com
Server: dns2.statesman.com
Address: xxx.xxx.124.62

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.glb.intel.com
Address: 198.175.96.33
Aliases: www.intel.com

If I try to perform a direct NSLOOKUP to DNS1 from an external DSL
Source, I get the following:

C:\>nslookup - xxx.xxx.122.62
DNS request timed out.
           timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address xxx.xxx.122.62: Timed out
Default Server: UnKnown
Address:	xxx.xxx.122.62

 >

 From DNS2:

C:\>nslookup - xxx.xxx.124.62
Default Server: dns2.statesman.com
Address:	xxx.xxx.124.62

Any ideas or clues as to what is happening here? They are running BIND
V-8.2.7
