When were SRV records first supported by BIND?

We're planning to start adding SRV records to a zone that has many unofficial
slaves around the University network, some of them running pretty ancient
nameserver software.

For planning purposes, it would be useful to know what was the first version 
of BIND that supported SRV records (or first versions if it was introduced
separately into BIND 4 and BIND 8). That's assuming that event predates the
ability of BIND to cope with unknown record types.
