Indeed, and by definition, although that's not necessaruly obvious at 
first sight.

Wildcard records (with '*' as the owner) provide default terminal name 
redirection.
Here, 'default' means matching any owner name which is not found, and 
'terminal'
means that only the rightmost (least significant) label is involved.

CNAME and DNAME records respectively provide specific terminal name 
redirection
and specific non-terminal name redirection.

You just can't mix 'specific' with 'default'.
