Thanks for the good advice! Problem solved by editing /etc/nscd.conf on server b ! I believe nscd is recquired for LDAP authentication so I can not disable it but this is good enough for me. /etc/nscd.conf is different server a positive-time-to-live hosts 0 server b positive-time-to-live hosts 3600
