True, chroot might be a good solution.

I'd gotten the impression that BIND now supplied a client resolver, and 
didn't know if it also checked hosts or if that was done elsewhere in the 
library system. I'm not familiar with the plumbing between the actual DNS 
resolver, glibc, and nsswitch.
