I count a number of root server operators as my friends. One endorses the
practice of using .local in their presence only if suitable dressed in
asbestos underwear. The concise story is that thousands of .local queries
escape from the LAN environment every second. This, together with queries
for RFC 1918 IN-ADDR space that escape much in the same way, loads the root
server system completely unnecessarily. 

Stop this bad, stupid pracice. Get a real domain.
